Why outdoor winter family photos are seriously underrated and are some of my favourites to photograph - By Whakatane Family Photographer RM Photo.

When Gemma came to me, she was looking to photograph her family of 3 before her son turned one (the cutest age to capture, oh-my-goodness). She wasn't sure if winter photoshoots were even a thing or if this time of year was even suitable for photos. SURPRISE - it is!

Winter is one of my favourite seasons for outdoor photos - you get the nice, calm, still evenings, earlier sunsets around 4pm (bedtime friendly) and candyfloss skies, PLUS the cooler weather means everyone's rugged up, all toasty and warm, which makes for the cutest photos.

At the end of the day, photoshoots are about remembering each age + stage of your family.

I work off energy. Simple as that. If the walls are up and everyone’s tense, the photos will show it. But when the energy’s right; when you’re open to play, willing to laugh, and ready to just go with it - that’s when the magic happens. That’s when I get the good stuff.
